Definitions of terms used in Predicade and prediction markets
A
Ask
The lowest price at which someone is willing to sell. Also called the “offer.”
API Key
A secret code that allows software to communicate securely. In Predicade, API keys enable trading without signing every transaction.
B
Bid
The highest price someone is willing to pay. The “bid price” is what buyers are offering.
Bridge
A service that lets you move cryptocurrency from one blockchain network to another.
C
CTF (Conditional Token Framework)
The smart contract system that creates and manages outcome tokens on Polymarket. When you buy “YES” shares, you’re buying conditional tokens.
E
EIP-712
A standard way to sign structured data in Ethereum. It makes signing messages safer by clearly showing what you’re approving.
Fill
When an order is matched and executed. “Partially filled” means some but not all of your order completed.
G
Gas
The fee paid to process transactions on a blockchain. On Polygon, gas fees are very small (fractions of a cent).
Gnosis Safe
A type of smart contract wallet. Predicade uses Gnosis Safe deployed by Polymarket Factory for trading.
H
Hot Market
A market experiencing unusually high trading activity. Multiple traders making significant bets in a short time window.
L
Limit Order
An order to buy or sell at a specific price. It waits in the order book until someone matches your price.
Liquidity
How much money is available to trade in a market. High liquidity means you can buy or sell easily without moving the price much.
Liquidity Impact
How much a trade moves the market price. Large trades in small markets have high liquidity impact.
M
Market Order
An order that executes immediately at the best available price. Faster than limit orders but you might not get the exact price shown.
Market Resolution
When a prediction market ends and the outcome is determined.
O
Order Book
A list of all open buy and sell orders for a market. Shows prices and quantities available.
Outcome Token
A digital token representing a position in a prediction market. YES tokens and NO tokens are outcome tokens, which are conditional tokens.
P
P&L (Profit and Loss)
How much money you’ve made or lost on a position. “Unrealized P&L” is theoretical; “Realized P&L” is actual profit/loss after closing.
POL
The native token of the Polygon network, used to pay for gas fees. Formerly called MATIC.
Polymarket
A prediction market platform where people bet on real-world events. Predicade provides tools for Polymarket traders.
Position
Your current holdings in a market. “I have a YES position” means you own YES shares.
Prediction Market
A marketplace where people trade on the outcomes of future events. Prices reflect the crowd’s estimated probability.
Proxy Wallet
A smart contract wallet that acts on your behalf. The Gnosis Safe is a type of proxy wallet.
R
Relayer
A service that submits transactions on your behalf. Predicade uses Polymarket relayer for gasless trading.
Resolution
When a market’s outcome is determined and positions are paid out.
S
Share
A unit of ownership in a prediction market position. Each share pays 1 USD if correct, 0 USD if wrong.
Spread
The gap between the highest bid and lowest ask. A tight spread means the market is liquid.
T
Tick Size
The minimum price increment for a market. If tick size is 0.001, valid prices are 0.500, 0.501, 0.502, etc.
Y
YES Token
An outcome token that pays $1 if the predicted outcome happens. Buying YES means betting that something will occur.
N
NO Token
An outcome token that pays $1 if the predicted outcome does NOT happen. Buying NO means betting against something.
